Specialist rigs · Double-hook snood
Wishbone rig
One snood, folded in two, with a hook at each end. Both points sit inside one long bait, so short-takers still get hooked.
- Targets
- Dogfish, codling, whiting, flatfish
- Where
- Clean ground, fished from a flapper or clipped body
- Use it for
- Whiting
What you need
- Snood
- About 90cm of 25lb mono or fluoro
- Hooks
- 2 × size 1/0–2/0
- Dropper
- Size 10 swivel on a crimp-and-bead stop
- Body
- Any flapper or clipped-down body
Build it
- Tie a hook to each end of the snood.
- Fold the line so one arm is 4–5cm shorter than the other.
- Tie a figure-of-eight loop at the fold.
- Pass the loop through the dropper swivel's eye and back over the swivel to fix it.
- Thread a long bait so both hook points sit inside it, one above the other.
On the beach
Also works with two separate baits for a quick double. For distance, clip the short arm into an impact shield.
Knots for this rig are in Knots. Line strengths, hook sizes and weights are starting points: scale them to your tackle, the ground and the tide. Diagrams are schematic and not to scale.
